Messed Up

I saw my first episode of the TV show, Grey’s Anatomy, recently.  And at the end of the episode one of the characters narrates as a way to wrap up the feelings of the whole episode.  Here is the narration of the one I saw…it kind of spoke to me.

Doesn’t matter how tough we are,

trauma always leaves a scar.

It follows us home, it changes our lives,

trauma messes everybody up,

but maybe that’s the point.

All the pain and the fear and the crap.

Maybe going through all of that

is what keeps us moving forward.

It’s what pushes us.

Maybe we have to get a little messed up,

before we can step up.

Just maybe… we do have to get a little messed up before we can step up.

  1. Pain and discomfort are meant to be catalysts for change. If we were satisfied with our situation, we’d fight to keep it.

Narcissists fight to never feel the discomfort or pain and hence rob themselves of the potential to grow as human beings.
